Stuck in Wando (Part 1)

Yesterday, we went to Wando for a nice day trip. After two hours on the bus, we learned that the day's last bus was leaving just fifteen minutes after our arrival. So, resigning ourselves to the fact that the dog would destroy the house while we were gone, we decided to stay the night. It was a blast. Here are a few pictures, with more to come in the next few days. Thanks to Jamie and Leah for the invite!Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ten Year Anniversary!

It's been a little over ten years since I was introduced to Wilco and they've been my favorite band almost since the first time I heard them on the radio. Chances are, if you've spent five minutes with me during the past decade, you've heard me mention the band. Their songs have given me a vocabulary to navigate some tough emotional situations, or as lead singer Jeff Tweedy puts it, "Music is the only way we are capable of talking about the most important things."

If you are not already a fan of Wilco, I invite you to check out their new album, Sky Blue Sky. It's pretty damn awesome, and unlike their previous two outings, pretty damn accessible to even a casual listener.

For a couple sample tracks and some older stuff, check out the Dave's Radio section of my blog. It's over there in the sidebar, about halfway down the page.

Ten years of being an overzealous fan- cornering people to tell them how great Wilco are- has been great fun. Expect me to chew your ear off soon.

Chew on This!

Food for thought:

If we turned what the United States will spend on the military in 2008 into small bills, we could give each one of the world’s more than 1 billion teenagers and young adults an Xbox 360 with wireless controller (power supply in remote rural areas not included) and two video games to play: maybe Gears of War and Command and Conquer would be appropriate. But if we’re committed to fighting obesity, maybe Dance Dance Revolution would be a better bet. The United States alone spends what the rest of the world combined devotes to military expenditures.

The Dragon (Part 2)

Here are a couple more pictures from the temple. We had a lot of fun walking up the mountain. Rachel fell only once- and that square on her behind- so it was a good day.

The Dragon

Rachel and I took a walk with Angela, the Canadian, to a Buddhist temple in Mokpo. We hiked up and down the mountain for an hour and a half to get there, but it was worth the trouble as you can see from the pictures.

(I'll post a few more pictures of the temple as soon as Rachel dumps them from the digital camera.)

Jack and Hagar the Hite Drinker

Sure... I complain about the dog: he gets in the trash, he barks inappropriately, he whines a lot, he sheds his own body weight every hour, he eats cat turds from the litter box every chance he gets. Sometimes, however, he is so freaking cute that it makes up for all that other stuff. Submitted for your approval: Wolfman Jack as book-rest.

And here's Hägar the Horrible drinking Hite Beer from a magic puddle-fountain?

Spring Walking

Today we walked the dog around the neighborhood, making friends and eating meat-on-a-stick. It was lunchtime, so there were hundreds of school-children out and about. Most smiled at the dog, a few were scared, a few said "Hello." One said, "I want sex." What the hell are they teaching these kids?

Oh yeah. We also watched a few minutes of a track meet at Yudal Stadium. Neat-o.
